Attention Word Slingers readers: Beginning December 11, 2019, all posts will be available at BaptistMessenger.com. Thank you for reading Word Slingers!

Welcome everyone!

My name is Jennifer Griffin and I am so honored to be a part of this project. I am a born and bred Oklahoma Southern Baptist.  I was raised and married at Putnam City Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, and have since been at First Baptist Broken Arrow, and Immanuel Baptist in Shawnee.  I graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University (’94), where I met my husband, Ray Griffin (’93).

While Ray completed school at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, I worked as a third grade school teacher in Texas and then kept busy as a substitute teacher for a few years when we moved back to Oklahoma.

We are currently serving at Quail Springs Baptist Church, where he is the Executive Pastor.  We have two children who keep us on the run, Caleb is a sixth grader and Emily is in fourth grade.

For as long as I can remember I have had a creative streak and have enjoyed making things, painting, sewing, and as I got older, decorating my home.  About  year and a half ago, I started blogging about my projects.  For at least a year before my husband had encouraged me to start a blog but I thought “No one will be interested in seeing what I’m doing.”

Well, I finally took the plunge, and real-life and now online friends have been so encouraging!  My goal is to encourage people to take a risk in decorating their home, try something new, and maybe teach them a little something that they didn’t know before.  As I write I always have the thought “I wish I had known this when I was 20!”

If you would like to follow along with me here, these are some things you can expect to read about:

  •  Home decor and design trends

  • How-to do it yourself projects

  • Transforming thrifted treasures

  • And maybe some tips, tricks, and an occasional recipe.

My hope for this space is to show you that good design doesn’t have to be tricky, expensive, or complicated.  With a little bit of inspiration and the will to put in some elbow grease, your home can be a warm, inviting, gracious place that you love!
